Fiber SenSys, Inc. releases the industry’s first practical Buried Intrusion Sensor.

Point locating buried line sensor for physical perimeter intrusion detection

HILLSBORO, OR, February 5, 2020 – Fiber SenSys, Inc. (FSI) recently announced the release of the Terrain Defender TD100™, the definitive intrusion sensor for buried applications.  This Radio Frequency (RF) leaky coaxial sensor implements a patented Fiber SenSys technique called End-to-End Correlation (E2EC™).  Processors on both ends of a cable pair transmit and receive a high-frequency signal forming a detection field.  Data from both ends are then synchronized and processed. E2EC provides several benefits, including:

  • Better signal processing resulting from increased data and target information
  • Nuisance rejection by reducing multi-path interference significantly diminishes the effects of metal objects such as fences from compromising performance

“This is the biggest advancement in buried sensor technology in the past 20 years,” said Dr. Keith Harman, a respected expert and leading designer of buried sensors. “Leveraging recent advances in Software-Defined Radio (SDR) and Multiple-In Multiple-Out (MIMO) technologies provided the tools needed to make Terrain Defender a game-changer,” Dr. Harman continued.

“This new buried sensor which was introduced at INTERSEC Dubai 2020 and will be launched in the US at ISC West,” says Duane Thompson, Senior Vice President, “offers many advantages including one-meter target location, cut tolerance, and improved detection in difficult environments. Furthermore, the installation of this product is estimated to be as much as 40 percent less than other buried systems. With early market reaction confirming the performance and ease of installation gains, Terrain Defender will be the decisive choice in buried sensors,” added Thompson.

With the only fiber optic sensor to receive PL1-N approval by the United States Air Force, the highest rating available, Fiber SenSys products are used to protect the most critical sites in the world.  Applications for FSI sensors range from commercial and power distribution to oil and gas as well as military. Scalable solutions vary from small, basic perimeters to those for large, highly complex, multi-site projects.

Fiber SenSys, Inc. is a wholly-owned subsidiary of OPTEX CO., LTD, the world’s largest manufacturer of outdoor security sensors. Optex stock is publicly traded on the Tokyo stock exchange.
